Nicholas Cleobury
Festival Curator of JAM on the Marsh
Esteemed conductor, Nicholas Cleobury, has been appointed as the 6th JAM on the Marsh Festival Curator for its 2023 and ’24 seasons. Nick has been involved with JAM for nearly 20 years having first conducted for the Trust in 2004 and having been a Music Panel member ever since. He has significantly influenced JAM’s renowned commissioning programme for many years, premiering many of the resulting commissions.
JAM on the Marsh invites highly respected artists to curate the festival for two years. This ensures that the festival remains dynamic, ever developing and continuously changing. The role of Festival Curator is vital to the programming of every festival. Nick joins an impressive list of previous Festival Curators: Judith Bingham (composer), Paul Mealor (composer), Daniel Cook (Master of the Choristers, Durham Cathedral), Michael Bawtree (organist and conductor) and Anna Tilbrook (pianist).
Not only is Nick a highly regarded conductor, but his service to music is huge having founded and led Canterbury’s Sounds New Festival, founded the Britten Sinfonia, led Britten in Oxford, Oxford’s response to Britten’s centenary in 2013, and until recently been Head of Opera at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Brisbane.
