Call for Music
Submissions are now closed.
Thank you to all those who applied.
Since 2000, JAM has given performances of over 180 new pieces of music, either submitted to or commissioned by the charity.
Successful submissions will be performed in JAM’s annual Music of Our Time concert. The works will be performed at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street (London) by the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, Onyx Brass and organist Simon Hogan, conducted by Michael Bawtree.
This Call for Music is a rare opportunity for composers to have their music professionally performed in central London, to an audience of general public, media and music industry. Many successful submittees have enjoyed repeat performances, enhanced profile, commissions and/or been published through the networking opportunity the performance day provides. The rehearsal is a hotbed of development, working on each piece with professional musicians. The concert will be professionally recorded to help composers promote their work.
Guidelines for submission:
- Open to anyone born, living or studying in the UK, aged 18+
- Scores must be written for choir, brass quintet (trumpet I, trumpet II, horn, trombone & tuba) and/or organ. Any combination of these forces is permitted. For example, a work for solo soprano or trumpet, or SATB voices, or brass quintet or all of the above is allowed.
- A maximum time limit of 10 minutes is stipulated. There is no minimum limit – a short fanfare is as relevant as a large piece for all the forces.
- All scores must be submitted by pdf via jam concert.org
- Please anonymise your score (remove your name) putting the piece title as the name of the pdf file. The panel reviews all scores anonymously.
- For text, any language is accepted. If setting copyright text, please have the appropriate copyright permission included in your submission. JAM will be unable to perform pieces without prior permission.
- There is a limit of submitting a maximum of 3 pieces. Please only send us your best piece (ie. an SATB piece, a solo trumpet piece and an organ piece are all very different hence allowing for multiple pieces)
- Deadline: Friday, 27 October 2023, 5pm
