EXHIBITION
Angela C. Smith is a London-based sculptor whose creative work continues the tradition of sculpture as a solid object, to be looked at from every angle. The form itself, the changing relationship between the details as you walk round the work and how light falls on it, creates the meaning and interest.
Each image grows from looking at the shapes of things and the space around them and appreciating their beauty, vitality and poetic qualities. Angela carves the works by hand and her love of the natural materials she uses is especially important; which is clear to all who see her timeless work. Having visited the glorious space that is St Leonard’s Church, Angela commented:
“I feel honoured to have my work on display in a church with a backdrop of ancient stone and woodwork. In the past, people expressed what held meaning for them in stone and wood in churches and I try to express intangible values using the same materials in my sculpture.”
