Steve Pill is an award-winning photographer, whose work has been featured in Joel Meyerowitz’s Masters of Photography series, Black + White Photography magazine, and more than a dozen exhibitions across the UK.
Presence is a new collection of photographs, shot in and around Romney Marsh since the beginning of the pandemic. As we emerged from a prolonged period deprived of human contact, the creative process became a search for signs of life – a fleeting figure, a still-warm seat, a flower growing amid the shingle stubble.
The exhibition’s title is also a reminder that the best pictures come when a photographer is truly present; there in the moment and alive to possibility. The use of 35mm film further encouraged this, as no checks could be made until the images were developed and therefore trust had to be placed in the camera on location.
