Impacting our Community

Since 2014, each year over 2,000 people living on the disparate, rural Romney Marsh (SE Kent) take part in JAM projects, from singing, playing instruments, art and workshops that would not happen otherwise. These projects are celebrated in our JAM on the Marsh festival. Our-free to-attend projects embrace people of all ages, driving skills, ambition, well-being and community cohesion.

“JOTM has such a significant impact on the Romney Marsh, helping our community to flourish through outstanding education and events.”

With local participants confirming the lack of musical opportunities, in 2024 JAM launched its Festival Orchestra uniting local amateur players and London Mozart Players. Workshops and rehearsals lead to an outstanding Festival Orchestra debut in JAM on the Marsh 2024 with soloist Aki Blendis, finalist of the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year. Both players and audience were ecstatic, loving the experience and opportunity that would not happen otherwise.

“The Festival Orchestra concert was electrifying - such a great idea to bring London Mozart Players together with our local musicians. An opportunity of a lifetime and the results were stunning.”

JAM is making a difference with community impact.

Responding to the lack of resource, JAM brings weekly After-school Singing Clubs into Romney Marsh primary schools, enabling academic, social and cultural potential to flourish (Ofsted). Since 2022, former BBC Singer Rebecca Lodge Birkebaek has been leading the clubs, with public performances, swelling pride, achievement and happiness across our community.

“High-quality music education must be available to all. JOTM brings the expertise we can’t, with clear improvement in behaviour, engagement and self-expression.”

These are only two projects that JAM has been promoting and impacting the local community. Click here to find out more.
