Location: South West London (SW16)
Workplace: 1 day a week in the office, flexible second day at home. In the 2-week festival period daily on Kent’s Romney Marsh
Contract: Freelance
Salary: £13.65 per hour / £95.55 per day, equivalent £10,600 pa at 48 weeks pa
Hours: 14 hours per week, ideally over 2 days

JAM is a creative, dynamic, forward-thinking arts organisation, with new music at its core. Throughout the last 20 years, JAM has commissioned and performed over 130 new pieces by some of the UK’s most significant composers, with multiple performances across the UK and worldwide. JAM achieves a six million multi-media reach per annum, regularly appears on BBC Radio 3 and its commissions have won British Composer Awards.
In 2014, JAM launched JAM on the Marsh, an annual 2-week multi-arts festival on Kent’s Romney Marsh. The 2021 live festival will run from 8-18 July and includes 14 concerts, 5 exhibitions, 1 theatre production as well as a film festival and education projects. JAM on the Marsh: VIRTUAL will broadcast in the autumn. Past and present artists include BBC Singers, London Mozart Players, The King’s Singers, The Gesualdo Six, Lesley Garrett, Onyx Brass, Changeling Theatre, land artist Jon Foreman and many more. JAM regularly collaborates with the Southbank, Barbican, Hastings Contemporary, Gulbenkian, Radio 3 and BBC South East TV. In 2020, JAM on the Marsh received a 4-star review in the Financial Times.

Essential Skills

• A passion for the arts
• Knowledge and experience in creating and nurturing a community
• An advanced user of all Microsoft Office Suite applications
• An experienced user of social media platforms and email marketing tools (i.e. Mailchimp)
• A person with great aptitude and enthusiasm for graphic layout and typography, both digital and print
• Confident about bringing individual creative input to the communication of concepts and narratives
• Able to show a wide range of ideas from concept to delivery
• Adaptable and willing to work collectively as part of a team, assisting with other reasonable admin tasks when necessary
• Demonstrate exceptional communication skills – written and verbal – to create engaging content, appropriate to the relevant audience
• Ability to develop strong working relationships internally and externally with colleagues, media, stakeholders and donors
• Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Flexible, driven and highly self-motivated
• Valid driving licence

Desirable Skills

• An advanced user of Adobe Creative Suite applications
• An expert user of social media platforms, email marketing tools (i.e. Mailchimp) and Google Analytics
• Experience constructing and delivering content narratives across multiple platforms
• Can present a personal portfolio showcasing previously delivered ideas and concepts
• Can give previous examples of successfully creating and nurturing a community
• Experience in website management (WordPress), web design (Elementor Pro), video editing (Final Cut Pro) and 3D software
• Previous copywriting and editing experience

Typical Weekly Activities

• Identifying and creating new opportunities for community engagement
• Planning and executing weekly content posts on social media and associated platforms
• Creating and maintaining a media archive for the organisation
• Updating website design and content
• Designing graphics for digital and print engagement
• Assisting with donor retention and cultivation efforts, including developing creative engagement strategies
• Assisting with reasonable admin tasks when necessary, including updating accounts and databases

Activities during JAM on the Marsh festival

• Increased frequency of social media engagement
• Identifying opportunities for creative engagement during the festival. For example, Instagram takeovers from performing artists, Instagram live, Facebook live, engaging audience and donors
• Assisting with ticket sales and distribution
