A Celebration of JAM at 25

JAM celebrates 25 years of commissioning music in the UK at St Bride's Church, Fleet Street, London.

On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, join us for an unforgettable evening at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, London, as JAM celebrates its 25th anniversary with a spectacular showcase of British music. The concert will begin at 7:00pm and promises a memorable journey through some of the most remarkable contemporary works in the classical world.

The JAM Legacy

Since its inception in 2000, JAM has been a trailblazer in supporting emerging British composers, offering a platform for new and exciting voices in classical music. Its mission to nurture, promote, and enable the next generation of composers has led to the commissioning of hundreds of works, enriching the UK’s cultural landscape and creating a legacy of groundbreaking music.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, this special concert will feature works commissioned by JAM, including a piece from its first-ever commission, Timothy Jackson’s No Answer, which explores the fear and oppression of captivity. The programme also includes Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal, Paul Mealor’s iconic piece that gained global recognition after being broadcast at the wedding of the now Prince and Princess of Wales.

Since 2000, JAM has given performances of over 180 new pieces of music, either submitted to or commissioned by the charity.

A Musical Journey

In addition to these celebrated works, the evening will offer world premieres, including Seven Songs of Nature by Joseph Phibbs, which explores the beauty and complexity of the natural world through seven distinctive choral songs. From mystical to playful, Phibbs’ piece offers a vibrant and earthy response to nature’s wonders.

The performance will also include The Cats Are Crowding Us by Alan Bullard, Chrome by Laura Heneghan, and In the Timbrels and Dances by Eoghan Desmond. These pieces further demonstrate the exciting range of compositions JAM has supported through its commissions and Calls for Music.

A Performance to Remember

The evening’s music will be performed by some of the best artists in the UK, including Onyx Brass, The Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, and Simon Hogan on organ, all conducted by Sarah MacDonald. It promises to be a celebration not only of incredible music but of the thriving community of composers, performers, and audiences that JAM has fostered over the years.
